The Atatürk Society of America has bestowed its Republicanism Award on Suna Kili, A.B. ’48, M.A. ’49, Ph.D. ’53. Kili, a professor of political science and constitutional law at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey, has published extensively on political theory, models of development, and modernization, especially in the context of the Turkish Revolution. She has lectured and served as a visiting professor at universities throughout the world, and her work has been published in numerous languages.
“In her writings,” says the society’s award citation, Kili “emphasizes that the utmost care must be given so that in the process of democratization republican values are not undermined. Prof.Dr. Kili, emphasizes in particular the commitment of the republic to sovereignty of the people, to public good, and to the secular basis of political authority.”
